| USMC P1944 HBT, (Herringbone
Twill), 2nd Pattern, Light Olive Green, Jacket - Named |
 |
2USU-16. Light olive-green HBT jacket, with blackened metal buttons that are embossed, “U.S. Marine
Corps;” The blackened finish is worn on the highlights of the lettering
and around the edges of the buttons, approximately 90% of the original
finish still remains. There are six buttons down the front, with two
aditional buttons under the collar; the interior has a wide gas flap that
is secured by three buttons. The jacket exhibits one, left, upper chest
pocket with flap and single button closure; this pocket is stenciled with,
“USMC,” letters and has a really nice, early style, eagle,
globe & anchor design; the original owners name is neatly stamped over
the pocket, “F.S. Reichert.” There are two, vertical opening, chest
pockets, each secured by one button; these two pockets open to the inside
of the jacket and were originally designed to hold the jungle flotation
bladder, which, when inflated, would support the soldier when fording
rivers or when making amphibious assaults; they were more likely used to
carry personal items or extra ammunition. The wide cuffs have a single
button with two buttonhole adjustments. The jacket has been laundered and is overall moderately faded;
the backside seems to be heavily faded from the sun. The jacket exhibits
moderate to heavy age with moderate wear, except for heavier wear on the
collar; there are a few light and insignificant soil spots. The jacket is
not frayed or damaged and has no rips, tears, holes or repairs. There is
no size tag present, however, this jacket might comfortably fit a size 38
to 40 chest with up to a size 36-inch waist. A very sound example. About

types of landing craft, transporting and unloading supplies for combat

elements of the unit included Engineer, Ordnance, Medical, Signal, and
Quartermaster Troops to accomplish their tasks. The 1st
Engineer Amphibian brigade made landings in North Africa, Italy and
