Funds for the sale of the reflector went to help support the 1940 Olympic games. The 1940 Winter Olympic games were originally scheduled to be held in Sapporo, Japan, but several countries planned to boycott the games because Japan was, at that time, waging an aggressive war against China. When Japan decided that the games would be a distraction to their military goals, the games were rescheduled to be held in Helsinki, Finland, however, the start of WW2 in 1939 caused the Games to be completely cancelled and the event never took place. The reflector is in About Vg. unused condition, it exhibits light to moderate signs of age; some of the vertical lines on the shield have been touched up, (we didn’t do it); looks like something scraped across it at some time and removed some of the white paint. Minor remnants of clear plastic, which once covered the face of the red reflector area, and held it in, are still attached under the crimped edge on the front. The backside is stamped, “Flashad, Dura Products Mfg. Co., Canton, O.,” (Ohio); the original sale price of $1.00 is ink stamped on the backside. Also included with the reflector is a, vintage, Official Olympic, pin back, emblem, on its original card, in its original glassine envelope; the emblem has a hard cloisonné finish and is in excellent unused condition. The card is printed, “Official Emblem, American Olympic Committee, Price .50 cents. Proceeds used to defray expenses of American Olympic Team, “For an American Victory in the Olympic Games.” The two items came together. Two very unique Olympic items with a remote military connection. Scarce $55.00 SOLD
