Montana Peaked Campaign Hat By The John B. Stetson Company
StetsonCampaignHat.JPG (41756 bytes)

3UH-32. An early, high quality, olive brown US Army Stetson campaign hat with a stiff, thick brim and an officer cap cord that is constructed of black & gold twisted cords; black & gold adjusting knot and two black & gold acorns. The black portion of the cord is worn in some spots and the gold color has tarnished to an antique shade. The olive brown hat material is in excellent condition, exhibiting very light age and very minor signs of wear that does not present any serious detraction. The thin, brown leather, chinstrap has been cut to size and has a nickel-plated adjusting buckle; the leather has picked up some minor verdigris where it touches the metal parts. The hat exhibits four, brown painted, metal grommet vent holes and a light brown, gross grain, hatband; there is an impression and two tiny holes on the front where an insignia was once pinned. The inside exhibits a wide, brown leather, sweatband that bears the embossed impression of the “Stetson Company” logo design, as well as a distributors cloth label, “M.L. French, Bangor, Maine.” The stitching on the sweatband has come loose at the front; this is unnoticeable and does not interfere with the display ability of this beautiful condition Campaign hat. The Army wore this style headgear since about 1912; this example is probably Circa 1925-1935.  Small size. You will be very pleased with this one. Overall near excellent+. $165.00 SOLD

Army Enlisted Man Chocolate Brown Wool Elastique Overseas Cap - (Garrison Cap) – With Infantry Blue Piping And Parachute Infantry Unit Patch On Side
OcEmElastInfAbn.JPG (43972 bytes)

3UH-ST33. Heavy, dark chocolate brown, wool Elastique, overseas cap with Infantry blue piping; the left side bears a 2-inch diameter, fully embroidered, Parachute Infantry Unit patch depicting a deployed, white colored, parachute on a blue background with a white border; the patch is hand sewn onto the hat using heavy thread in a wide zigzag pattern. The interior has dark blue rayon lining with a brown leather sweatband; the underside of the sweatband is hand inked, “44-S-94239, and has other illegible letters or numbers. There was a white cloth tag sewn into the sweatband seam but it’s missing. I am guessing that the size is about 7-1/2. The interior and exterior exhibit very light age and insignificant wear; the patch and blue piping exhibit light soil from handling and actual use. A very nice example. Near excellent. $69.00 SOLD

Army Enlisted Man Infantry Khaki Cotton Twill Overseas Cap - (Garrison Cap)
OsEmInfTan.JPG (51343 bytes) 3UH-34. Khaki cotton enlisted man's, Army Infantry, side cap piped in  light blue.  Unlined with a, tan leather sweatband, the sweatband has small holes along its length to help improve air circulation. The inside is inked with the original owners name, "Abbott.". No specification or size label. The exterior khaki material, as well as the light blue piping has an, even, overall, light storage soil and there is a hole on the left side where a screw post insignia was attached; the interior is lightly aged and has a little soil on the sweatband from use. The dark, brownish, areas on the khaki material are shadows created by the scanner, not soil. A nice large size, maybe 7-1/2. Infantry piped caps are in demand and are sometimes difficult to acquire. Vg. $32.00 SOLD
Army Officer Light Colored Olive Drab Melton Wool Service Cap
VisorOffColonial.JPG (50173 bytes) 3UH-35. US Army officer service cap constructed of smooth, light colored, olive drab Melton wool, (fur felt), material with double grommet vent holes on each side and medium olive green color woven ribbed officer hatband. Light colored russet brown leather visor with brown leather the underside; the leather on the underside of the visor is soiled where one would handle the visor when adjusting it for a proper fit. The cap has an adjustable, light colored russet leather chinstrap with “wire-back,” brass side buttons and light colored russet leather back strap with adjustable buckle, a small metal hook at center backside secures the back strap and keeps it in place. Very nice, brass, officer insignia, original to this cap, exhibits light signs of age from handling and storage. The cap has a light brown leather sweatband, (all of the stitching is intact), and removable stiffener round top edge. Yellow interior lining covered with orange sweat shield; the sweat shield is completely intact and not deteriorated as in most cases. The lining is stamped with a large U.S. style eagle logo, bearing the word “original,” on the eagle’s chest shield. The words, “Semper Premus” and “Colonial,” as well as, the size 7-1/4 are printed above the eagle’s head. This complete logo design is also stamped into the leather sweatband. There are two small moth holes on the top of the cap, as well as several other less obvious moth nips; there are sever other small to moderate moth bites near the front and under the fold of the hat, because of the nature of the material they are not noticeable at first glance, (nothing seriously detracting), it seems that the little buggers enjoy this type of material above all others. Very minor and insignificant signs of any actual use. The hat has managed to completely retain its classic shape and displays quite nicely. A real beauty. Overall excellent+ condition. $165.00 SOLD
Early U.S. M-1917A1 U.S. Combat Helmet
M1917A1Helmet1var.JPG (52088 bytes)

3UH-37. After WW1, it became evident that the M-1917 helmet needed a makeover; the M-1917 offered little protection at the sides and back of the head, it was not stable and was poorly balanced. After several years of testing experimental model helmets, it was decided to alter existing M-1917 helmets; these helmets were refinished and refitted with a new style liner that had a leather comfort pad in the crown and an adjustable khaki web chinstrap. The liner was held in the helmet by a screw post and rounded edge nut, which is located at the, “top-dead-center,” this new style attachment provided for ease of removal and reattaching a new liner. The exterior of this example retains approximately 99% of its original, coarse sawdust, dark olive drab finish, which shows very minor and insignificant surface scuffs and scratches, as well as, overall dusty storage soil; there are minor areas where small spots of light red rust is peaking through the paint; (one moderate area, near the rim, which is a combination of light rust and soil). The interior is very clean it retains approximately 98%of its original, smooth, matte, dark olive drab paint that is moderately scuffed, and lightly scratched on the back rim. The front underside of the rim is stamped, “4B.” The four-panel liner is constructed of light russet brown leather with and has metal eyelets with a thin leather tie cord and leather pad in the crown for adjustment and comfort. The leather tie cords are delicate and one end of the cord that attaches the top center pad has broken away from the suspension band. The liner is supple but somewhat delicate; it is nearly completely intact, however, there are areas, which have been eaten away, as well as a few spots that have tears from improper handling. There are a few black spots on the lining and the liner is lightly cracked, and moderately deteriorated, where the leather folds over the metal headband. The description of the liner may tend to make it seem worse than it really is; it’s actually in, what appears to be, unused condition, however, it did not age well over years of storage. The tan cotton web chinstraps are sewn to the “D-Rings,” on the metal liner headband; the chinstrap is fastened and adjusted by blackened brass, “hook & arrow,” hardware. The khaki web chinstraps are in near excellent condition, showing light age, very minor wear, as well as, very minor and insignificant soil from handling and storage; there are two tiny and insignificant frayed spots area on the edge of the “arrow” side of the chinstrap. These helmets saw action early in Pearl Harbor and early in the in the Pacific theatre of Operations. A very nice example. SCARCE.  V+ or better. $225.00 SOLD

WW2 U.S. M1 Fiber liner, For WW2 M1 Steel Combat Helmet, With Brown Leather Chin Strap & Cotton Nape Strap, All In Mint Unissued Condition, With Original WW2 GI Packing Paper. Grade#1
M1LinerMint.JPG (39610 bytes) 3UH-38. A beautiful, unissued fiber liner with front vent hole. The liner exhibits 100% of its original WW2 period, rough, matte OD paint, (absolutely not a repaint); the interior exhibits a light olive, (khaki), cotton web suspension with a center tie. The suspension is attached to the liner with blackened metal hardware, which is in excellent + condition with no rust or deterioration on any of the metal suspension parts. The Liner has an, unissued, russet brown leather chinstrap with blackened metal hardware, which was attached to the liner from the factory; there is verdigris on the chinstrap hardware, which can, pretty much, be brushed off with a toothbrush. The liner also has an unissued, light olive, (khaki), cotton web nape strap with four silver metal snaps attached to the back of the suspension. Unfortunately, we do not have the leather sweatband. The interior of the liner is marked with the letters, “CAPAC,” within an equal armed cross, which is the logo for the, CAPAC Manufacturing Company, Capac, Michigan. A large piece of original GI packing paper, used in the original shipping and storage of this helmet, is included. I personally removed this helmet liner from its original WW2 cardboard packing crate, which was dated 5 March 1945; the liner and its components have not seen the light of day for 62-years. Truly a beautiful example of an original WW2 U.S. M1 helmet liner that would be extremely difficult to up grade. VERY RARE IN THIS CONDITION. Very limited quantity. Unused. Mint. $165.00 SOLD-OUT
WW2 U.S. M1 Fiber liner, For WW2 M1 Steel Combat Helmet, With Brown Leather Chin Strap & Cotton Nape Strap, All In Mint Unissued Condition. Grade#2
3UH-38a. Same description, as above except the exterior painted finish has some, light to moderate, (fairly insignificant), scuffs and rub marks from rubbing against the paper packing material or against another helmet in the shipping crate; there may be spots of verdigris on some of the interior metal parts and the verdigris may have transferred onto the khaki webbing. The verdigris on the metal parts is not damaging and any verdigris on the cotton webbing is light and is of no big consequence. I personally removed this helmet liner from its original WW2 cardboard packing crate, which was dated 5 March 1945; the liner and its components have not seen the light of day for 62-years. Still an excellent example of an original WW2 U.S. M1 helmet liner that would be difficult to up grade. RARE IN THIS CONDITION. Very limited quantity. No packing paper available with Grade#2 liners. Unused. Excellent++ $149.00
