2-1/4-inch high fully embroidered
blue patch in the "stylized" shape of two
“8’s,”one horizontal and one vertical. Activated in July 1942; the
unit arrived in North
Africa in December 1943. Casablanca, Algeria, Naples, Cassino, Gustav
Line, Anzio, Rome, Tiber River, Arno River, Volterra, Gothic Line, Mt.
Battaglia, Po Valley, Verona, Brenta River, Dolomites, Austria and then
occupation duty in Italy. The 88th Infantry Division fought 307 days in three campaigns,
at a loss of over 13,000
men. Just a hint of very insignificant age. A nice soft and flexible

10UP-121. Established
in 1942 with the mission of raising funds for the Army Emergency Relief
Fund. This was accomplished by about 1,200 soldiers who provided live
shows, in large American cities, demonstrating large and small arms, as
well as, variety of wheeled and tracked combat vehicles providing a
convincing portrayal, to the civilian population, of the capabilities of
the American troops in battle. A scarce patch. Unused. Near

Corps - IV |

10UP-122. 2-1/4-inch
diameter, fully embroidered blue patch with the number “6” embroidered
in white thread. Activated in August 1940 the 6th corps
proceeded to Mediterranean area in February 1943. They trained in North
Africa for a combat assault on the mainland of Italy that took place in
September 1943. The Corps advanced towards Avellino and the Volturno
River; crossing the river they drove towards the town of Venafro and the
Mignano Gap. After fighting against the German winter Line, the Corps was
relieved so they might prepare for a combat assault at Anzio in January
1944. The beachhead was under continuous enemy artillery fire; repulsing
many German attacks the Corps finally broke through German lines. Some
elements of the Corps entered Rome while others pursued the Germans to the
north. The sixth Corps was then assigned to the Seventh Army for the
assault on France. Landing near St. Tropez, the corps cut the German
escape route from the Rhone Valley and captured Bourg and Montreval. After
a month of difficult fighting the Corps secured the Murthe River Valley
and reached the Rhine Valley by November 1944. The Corps continued to
advance through the Alsatian Plain to the Siegfried Line, fighting against
heavy resistance. The 6th Corps crossed the Rhine River mear
Mannheim and advanced to the Neckar River, capturing Heilbronn. The 6th
corps crossed the Ulm and Danube Rivers and entered Innsbruck, Austria and
accepted the surrender of the German 19th Army. The 6th
Corps fought in six campaigns and made three assault landings. Unused.

Corps - VIII - Green Border - Greenback

10UP-122c. 2-1/2-inch
x 2-1/2-inch octagon shaped blue embroidered patch depicting a white
number “8” within a white octagon; the patch has an olive green
border and the reverse exhibits an overall olive green thread backing of
particular interest to patch collectors. Activated in October 1940
and was headquartered at Fort Sam Huston, Texas. The 8th corps
proceeded to The European Theatre of Operations in December 1943. While
stationed in Worcestershire, England they were in charge of First Army
Group Reserves and processed Third Army troops. Elements of the 8th
corps landed on Utah Beach, Normandy on Day Day + 8, establishing a
defensive line across the Cotentin Peninsula and attacking through the
Normandy hedgerows. The unit participated in Operation Cobra and capturing
Cutances and Arvanches. The 8th advanced to Brest and Lorient,
capturing St. Malo and the St. Servan Fortress. 8th Corps units
helped to clear the Plougastel Peninsula and cleaning up of enemy forces
in Brest. In October 1944 the unit moved to Belgium setting up a defensive
line in Luxembourg. During the German Winter Offensive, the Corps was
split and greatly outnumbered. Fighting delaying actions in the Scdhnee
Eifel Sector the 8th was able to slowly drive the Germans back
toward the Siegfried Line. In January the 8th Corps reached the
Our River, attacking the Siegfried Line. The 8th Corps drove
the enemy out of the Schnee Eifel area where most of the 106th
Infantry Division was lost. Gaining the high ground the 8th
cleared Pruem and eliminated the remaining Siegfried Line defenses.
Crossing the Pruem River, the 8th Corps elements drove toward
the Rhine River and captured Koblenz then crossed the Rhine River to
Giessen, Schmitten and Usingen. The 8th Corps devastated German
SS units at Eisnach and repulsed heavy German infantry and armor
attacks. The 8th Corps crossed the Saar and Saale River,
establishing a bridgehead at the Zwick-Mulde River near Zwickau on April
17, 1945 where they were ordered to halt their advance. Withdrawing to the
west bank of Mulde River. On May 6, 1945 the 8th Corps met up
with Russian units at Waldheim; two days later the war in Europe ended.
The 8th Corps fought in five campaigns; they returned to the
United States in August 1945 and was deactivated in December 1945 at Camp

Coast Artillery District – Pacific Coast |

10UP-D123. 2-5/8-inch diameter, fully embroidered, OD patch
depicting a red artillery round, superimposed on a nine pointed gold star.
The 9th Coast Artillery District was responsible for coastal
and harbor defenses from the Canadian border, south to the Mexican border.
Slight "fuzziness," on parts of the edge. Unused. Near Excellent. $7.00 SOLD |
| 37th
Infantry Division –The Buckeye Division |

10UP-124. 2-1/4-inch
diameter, fully embroidered, bright white patch with a 1-1/2-inch diameter
embroidered red center. Pre-WW2 the 37th Division was allocated
to the Ohio National guard, /they were activated in October 1940; they
embarked for the Pacific Theater of Operation in may 1942; they were sent
to the Fiji Islands to train for Jungle Operations. In April of 1943, the
Division Arrived on, the secured island of, Guadalcanal for additional
training for the New Georgia Campaign. The 37th Infantry
Division fought in New Georgia at Bairko Harbor and Munda Airfield as well
as, mopping up operations. After a rest on Guadalcanal the unit relieved
Marine units on Bougainville, by March 1944 they were in full battle with
the Japanese, repelling them in every instance. The unit rested, trained
and prepared for a landing a t Luzon. Attacking towards Manila the 37th
captured Clark field and Ft. Stotsenberg reaching the outskirts of the
city, liberating it only after a month of heavy fighting and rescued over
1,300 allied soldiers from the Bilibid Prison. The 37th fought
the Japanese on Luzon until their surrender on August 15th
1945. The unit processed Japanese prisoners and surrendering soldiers
until November 1945. It's interesting to note that the patch looks
very much like the Japanese national flag symbol. Unused. Excellent. $8.00 SOLD |

Infantry Division – Tropic Lightning Division |

10UP-125. 1-7/8-inch wide x 2-7/8-inch
high patch cut in the shape of a red, “Pacific Taro Leaf,” with a
golden lightning bolt in the center and a gold border. Heavily
embroidered, lots of white thread on backside. The 25th
Division was assigned as a Regular Army Unit with its Headquarters at the
Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. After the Pearl Harbor and Schofield Barracks
attach the unit was moved to the defense of Pearl Harbor and the Ewa
Plains. After rigorous Jungle Warfare Training the Division was sent to
Guadalcanal to relieve Marine Units there. In January 1943 the Division
saw combat at, Kokumbona, Mount Austen Pocket and Cape Esperance; the
Japanese withdrew. Elements of the 25th Division continued to
fight in the Solomon Islands on Munda and New Georgia capturing Zieta,
Bairoko Harbor. The 25th Division was sent to New Zealand to
rest and re-group. In February 1944 the Division was sent to New Caledonia
to train for the invasion of the Philippines. They entered the Philippine
Campaign at san Fabian in the Lingayen Gulf. The Division engaged the
Japanese across the central Luzon Plain capturing Uningan, Lupao, and San
Jose, defeating the Japanese and capturing enemy equipment. The division
captured the Caraballo mountain area and opened the 1500-foot high Balete
Pass. On the advent of the Japanese surrender, the 25th
Division proceeded to Japan for occupation duty. The division fought in
two campaigns; including 165 continuous days of combat on Luzon, at a cost

high, fully embroidered shield shaped patch depicting a wavy white line
passing diagonally through a red and blue field. Activated in March 1941,
originally Headquartered with the Third Army at San Antonio, Texas. The
commands mission was to protect the southern portion of the United States;
the two units were separated in January 1944; the Southern Defense
Command, moving to Ft Sam Houston, Texas. In January 1954, the Southern
Defense Command was deactivated and its responsibilities were taken over

10UP-128. 2-1/4-inch
diameter, fully embroidered, depicting a 1-1/4-inch diameter blue center within
white and red concentric circles. This unit was established on the east
and west coast in 1943 specifically for processing overseas combat
replacements. Known as, “Repo Depots,” they certified that soldiers
were physically and mentally prepared for overseas duty, as well as being
responsible for replacement GI’s housing, feeding, transportation,
hospitalization and discipline before their movement overseas.
The importance of Replacement Depots is demonstrated by the fact
that over one million GI’s were processed for the European Theatre from
D-Day through VE-Day. Unused. Excellent. $8.00 SOLD |

Division - The Victory Division - Green Border Variation |

wide x 3-1/4-inch high oval patch depicting an intertwined number “9”
and the Roman numeral “V.” This specimen has the addition of a
medium colored olive border around the edge of the patch, which is of
particular interest to collectors. European Theatre of Operation;
landed in France late in 1944. Moselle, Metz, Seille River, Moselle River,
Saar River, Rhine River, Saarlautern, Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge,
Holland, Lippe River, Ruhr River, Mohne River, Dortmund and occupation in
Germany. Three campaigns, 151 days in combat with a loss of over 6,500
men. Very light signs of age in the form of slight frays on the olive
border, very light soil from handling and storage, (nothing serious). A nice variation.

Infantry Division - The Statue of Liberty Division - Golden/Yellow

10UP-131. 2-inch wide x 2-3/4-inch high,
tapered shaped, fully embroidered, blue patch depicting the, golden/yellow, embroidered image of the "Statue of Liberty." The
unit was activated in 1942, they trained in Hawaii for amphibious
assaults and jungle warfare. Elements of the unit were attached to the 3rd
Marine Amphibious Force and assaulted the eastern beaches of Guam; they
also fought in Leyte, Kerama Retto, Keise Shima, Le Shima. The 77th
Infantry Division combined forces
with the 1st Marine Division in Okinawa and in the Philippines
and the unit trained for Operation Olympic. The 77th Infantry Division fought in three
campaigns. The front of the patch is in excellent condition; it has a
heavily embroidered and nicely detailed design of the "Statue of
Liberty." The backside
has extremely light and insignificant, brownish, spots from, very light,
glue or tape residue. Unused. Excellent. $8.00 |
