Post
WW2 U.S. Army Patches, Armies, Corps, Divisions, Commands, Brigades,
Regiments, Regimental Combat Teams, Units, etc., as available. |
|
Note: As the post WW2 US military quickly grew, many different patches suddenly
appeared, creating “Officially Authorized Patches,” “Unofficially
Authorized Patches,” “Unofficial Patches,” “Unauthorized
Patches,” “Fantasy Patches,” as well as, reproductions of rare and
exotic patches, all to satisfy the military, as well as, the never ending
need of the collector. In
some cases, its reasonable to assume, that existing stocks of WW2 period
produced patches were used until exhausted, making it difficult to
determine exactly when a particular post WW2 merrowed edge patch had its début.
Generally speaking, patches containing the “New Army Green Color,” do
not usually appear before 1957; the merrowed edge patch generally started to appear in 1968.
In 1970, “subdued” unit and rank insignia was officially worn on field
and combat uniforms, although some “subdued” shoulder insignia was
actually worn before that date. Some of the patches actually used today,
appear the same as WW2 patches except for the material content, (not 100%
cotton), backing material and the addition of the merrowed edge. Many of
the post WW2 patches we offer are one of a kind from collections we have
purchased; some are factory samples, factory closeouts or overruns; some
are genuine military patches we normally sell in our store and some were
actually purchased from the specific unit. |

Squadron 7th Cavalry Garry Owen Bullion Embroidered Pocket
patch – Motto, “Out Front” |
|
4PWAP-65. A
4-1/4-inch wide x 4-1/2-inch high patch depicting the distinctive
regimental insignia of the 4th Squadron 7th Cavalry.
The 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry performs reconnaissance and security
operations for the 2nd Infantry Division and is the Army's most
forwardly deployed heavy Divisional Cavalry Squadron, which is based at
Camp Garry Owen, South Korea. The unit is responsible for reconnaissance,
security and engaging in offensive, defensive operations, as well as
training of some ROK Army units; the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry is the
“eyes and ears” of the 2nd Infantry Division. The name “Garry
Owen” is derived from a traditional Irish ballad sung by troopers of the
early, Custer, Indian Wars 7th Cavalry and reportedly, “Garry
Owen” was the played as the signal for the charge of the 7th Cavalry in
its, “victory,” over the Cheyenne Nation in the Battle of Wasshita in
1868. The patch is hand embroidered, overseas, using silver and gold
bullion wire on dark green wool felt with blue trim. Although this is a
contemporary patch, this specimen has some age and has tarnished, very
slightly, to a pleasing patina and has a soft and somewhat flexible feel.
The backside is covered with a black paper, however, the multitude of
threads, showing the considerable amount of handwork that went into the
construction of this patch, can still be seen through the paper backing.
Designed for use on civilian clothing. Very nice. About excellent. $24.00 |
