| Early “Front Heil”
German Stahlhelm Members Buckle Type I |
 |
2GU-11.
Solid brass
buckle, made in the design of the Prussian field buckle, with,
separately applied, stamped silver plated, inset bearing a WW1 style
German helmet within a half oak leaf wreath bearing the words, “Front
Heil,” embossed above the helmet, very roughly translated “Front Heil”
means “Hail to the Soldiers of the Front.” The Stahlhelm Bund der
Frontsoldaten, (Steel Helmet League of Frontline Soldiers), was the
largest, of the many paramilitary Friekorps Organizations that appeared
in the Weimar Republic after the defeat of Imperial Germany in World War
1. The front of this example exhibits a dull brass finish, which doesn’t
appear to have been polished or cleaned; there are light scratches,
fingerprints and tiny spots of tarnish on the front, as well as one
moderate tarnished spot at 2-o-clock. The silver inset is lightly worn,
scratched and soiled; it retains nearly 100% of its original matte
silver plated finish. The backside is heavily tarnished, lightly worn
and lightly scratched from the belt hook during use. Avery nice
example. These buckles are not normally maker marked. Vg.

"Brown Shirts," Brass Buckle With Silver Inset – Worn From 1933 to 1945
|
 |
2GU-12.
Brass buckle with a separately applied, silver-plated, brass center
inset; the inset depicts, in high relief, an early style German
Political type eagle standing on an oak leaf wreath with a swastika in
the center; the eagle and swastika is within a ribbed border with a half
oak leaf wreath. The inset originally had a silver-plated finish, which
has been worn off from normal wear or polished off over the years, only
insignificant remnants of the original silver resides in crevices and
low spots on the design. Front of buckle is, light, to moderately worn
on the highlights and the finish has toned to a pleasing antique brass
patina. The backside is moderately tarnished and has some dark spotting.
A nice example. These buckles are not usually maker
marked. Vg. $85.00 SOLD

| Luftwaffe
Enlisted Man Khaki/Tan Tropical Web Belt and Tropical Painted Stamped
Steel Buckle With Olive Web Tab
|
 |
2GU-13.
Stamped steel, smooth finish, Luftwaffe buckle depicting a Luftwaffe
eagle and swastika with “Gott Mit Uns,” motto, and wreath; the front of
the buckle retains approximately 90%, or more, of its original, light
olive green, tropical paint. The painted finish is worn through to base
black metal, on the highlights and other areas on the front of the
buckle, consistent with light, to near moderate use. The top of the
wreath and the top edges of the eagles wings exhibit reddish surface
rust, (not serious). The backside of the buckle retains at least 98% of
its original, light, matte olive green, tropical paint and has the
spot-welded type belt catch. The olive web tab is securely stitched
using gray thread and the ends of the tab are finished with olive brown
thread. The khaki/tan colored woven web belt has a brown leather
adjusting tongue with a black backside. The tip end of the belt is
stamped, “105,” in purple ink and it is finished off with olive brown
thread. The opposite end of the belt has olive green painted stamped
steel attaching hook and that end of the belt has an indistinguishable
purple stamp marking and is finished off using olive brown thread. The
belt is approximately 39-inches long x 1-3/4-inches wide, and would fit
a 34-35 inch waist. The belt is in excellent condition showing only
slight signs of use and is without soil. A beautiful example of a
Luftwaffe enlisted man tropical buckle and belt. The unmarked
buckle would rate Vg+ or better; the belt is excellent.

Man Leather Belt & Stamped Steel Buckle With Leather Tab Marked,
Overhoff & Co, Ludenscheid, 1940 |
 |
2GU-14. Stamped steel buckle with a very dark green,
re-painted finish, depicting a German Army style eagle and swastika with
“Gott Mit Uns,” motto, and wreath. The front of the buckle retains
approximately 50%, of its very dark green paint, the buckle appears to
have been re-painted several times creating thick painted finish, which
is heavily aged, chipped and worn to base metal in some areas. The
highlights and raised surfaces of the design and lettering are moderate
to heavily worn and have a reddish rust patina; the eagle’s eye, beak
and chest feathers are still fairly discernable. Approximately 75%, or
more, of the original matte green paint remains on the backside of the
buckle, which exhibits moderate signs of age and use, as well as a few
minor spots of surface rust. The backside of the buckle is unmarked. The
brown leather tab that is attached to the buckle, is moderately aged and
lightly worn, it has not been oiled or preserved, while it has darkened
slightly, in spots, from age, it retrains much of its original light
brown color, as well as its original stitching; the tab is deeply
stamped with the makers name and city, “Overhoff & Co, Ludenscheid,” and
the date, “1940,” is unusually large and deeply struck; although
Overhoff & Co, manufactured a raft of buckles, this particular trademark
does not often show up on buckle tabs. The belt is constructed from
thick black leather, which exhibits light to moderate overall signs of
age and wear; the leather is sound and supple; not dried, cracked or
otherwise damaged and is completely serviceable; the belt was stored in
a folded position and retains two folds, (not stiff), which will surely
flatten if worn or weighted down. One end of the belt has a stitched
loop, which secures a heavy steel, combat style, buckle hook, which is
aged, worn and retains about 50% of its original gray/green paint; the
end of the stitched loop is stamped with partial unit markings, “8/42,”
is all that is legible. The brown backside exhibits light to moderate
overall signs of age and use and there is one large blackened area, (not
damaged), where a piece of equipment was hung or it was continually
handled in that area by the original owner. The leather adjusting tab is
present and exhibits light signs of age and use, the tab is very sound
and supple; not dried, cracked or otherwise damaged and is completely
serviceable. The area beneath the adjusting tab is hand inked with the
original owners name, which appears to be, “Fritz Schell,” and the tip
of the belt is deeply stamped, “102,” which is the size in centimeters.
The belt is approximately 39-1/2-inches long x 1-3/4-inches wide and
would nicely fit a 36-37-inch waist. The front of the buckle would rate
about Good; the leather tab is Vg, or slightly better, as is the belt.
A decent used set with unique markings.

Man Tropical painted Stamped Steel Buckle With Leather Tab Dated 1942 |
 |
2GU-15. Stamped steel, smooth finish, Army buckle depicting an
Army eagle and swastika with “Gott Mit Uns,” motto, and wreath; the
painted finish front of the buckle is heavily worn, it retains
approximately 25% of its original light olive green tropical paint, with
dark silver base metal showing through in the areas of wear; the design
is deeply struck and there is still plenty of nice detail showing. The
backside of the buckle exhibits moderate age and retains at least 90%of
its original light, matte, olive green, tropical paint; there is dusty
soil, from storage, residing in the deep recesses of the stamped design
on the backside. The buckle has the spot-welded type belt catch and the
backside is stamped with company trademark, “J.F.S.,” (Josef Feix Sohne,
Gablonz-Reisse). The brown leather tab is securely stitched onto the
buckle roller; the makers trademark stamp is not completely readable but
the date 1942 can be seen without much trouble; the leather has darkened
over the years but it does no appear to have been cleaned or oiled.

RZM 155/40 SS |
 |
2GU-16.
A one piece,
stamped steel buckle exhibiting the distinctive SS eagle and
swastika insignia within a circle and bearing the SS motto,
“Meine Ehre Heist Treue!” A classic, highly detailed, example, which
includes a crisp, highly embossed, swastika and wreath; clearly detailed
lettering and beautifully detailed eagle. Approximately 95%, or more, of
the original silver paint remains on the front of the buckle, which
shows light signs of age, a little wear and light surface scratches from
handling and use. The paint is almost completely worn from the letters,
M & e, in the word “Meine. The backside will smoothly accept any
original WW2 German leather belt; the buckle is complete with its round
metal belt hook catch with flat welded ends and double belt-adjusting
prongs. The backside retains approximately 80%, or more, of its original
silver paint; the paint, is light, to moderately, (heavy in some spots),
worn to base gray metal; the wear is mostly confined to where the
leather laid in contact and rubbed against the buckle; it appears that
this buckle was attached to a leather belt for a long time and really
never saw any hard use. The buckle is “Assmann” marked, “RZM, (within a
circle), 155/40, SS,” (within a circle), on the back edge, below
the double prongs; the marking is under the paint, which has filled in
the stamp and it’s somewhat difficult to see completely, but it’s all
there. A beautiful, classic example that’s 1000% guaranteed to be an
original, WW2 period, SS buckle. SCARCE. Near
excellent. $350.00 SOLD |

Enlisted Man, Silver Painted, Stamped Steel Belt Buckle – Assmann Marked
RZM 155/43 SS

2GU-17.
A one piece,
stamped steel buckle exhibiting the distinctive SS eagle and
swastika insignia within a circle and bearing the SS motto,
“Meine Ehre Heist Treue!” The front of the buckle is just about devoid
of any silver paint, except, for remnants in the crevices and low areas
around the design; the buckle has an overall dark gray/green patina,
(undercoat?), with highlights worn to base, matt silver, metal; it’s
heavily aged and exhibits moderate to heavy wear, however, the detail on
the eagle and swastika is not completely compromised and much detail is
still quite prominent. There is rust on the wreath; the eagles left leg,
as well as other areas of surface rust within the central design and
parts of the outer circle. The lettering is heavily worn but still
quite high; there is original dirt residing in, and between, some of the
letters. The backside retains approximately 75%, or more of its original
silver paint, which is aged and moderately worn to base a dark
gray/green finish, in some spots, from the rubbing of a belt and it
exhibits some surface rust, some of which, on the front and backside,
appears to be “blood rust,” as many of the items we acquired from this
veterans estate had this condition, as well. The buckle will smoothly
accept any original WW2 German leather belt; it’s complete with its
round metal belt hook catch with flat welded ends and double
belt-adjusting prongs. The buckle is “Assmann” marked, “RZM, (within a
circle), 155/43, SS,” (within a circle), on the back edge, below
the double prongs. Looks like this buckle is one of those that was
actually there. A classic example that’s 1000% guaranteed to
be an original, WW2 period, SS buckle. SCARCE. Good+.

Early SA (Sturmabteilung), Brown Shirts Brass Buckle With Separately
Applied Inset, Circa 1932-1933 |
 |
2GU-18.
Early, large size, eagle standing on a wreath bearing a
mobile swastika, (later SA buckles utilized a smaller eagle with the
eagles head lying well below the inside edge of the wreath). The
separately applied inset originally had a silver wash, which has
completely deteriorated to a, tarnished, base brass metal, only tiny and
insignificant remnants of the original silver finish can be seen in the
recesses and crevices of the design. The front of the buckle exhibits a
dull brass finish, which doesn’t appear to have been polished or
cleaned. There are light scratches and tiny spots of tarnish, as well as
one moderate spot, on the front, at 9-o-clock. The backside is heavily
worn from and scratched from the belt hook during use and there is an
unreadable name lightly scratched into the brass near the belt hook
opening. A nice example. These buckles are not usually
maker marked. About Vg. $85.00

Enlisted Man Pebbled Aluminum Belt Buckle 2-Piece Construction With
Separate Center Inset |
 |
2GU-19. Lightweight stamped aluminum
buckle with overall silver pebbled finish and a thin center inset with
embossed Luftwaffe eagle and swastika design, on a pebbled background,
within a laurel wreath. The inset is attached by means of four thin tabs
that fit into slots in the buckle. This was done as an attempt to save
money in production costs and offer a less expensive buckle. The front
of the buckle exhibits virtually no signs of age or use; it retains
approximately 98%, or more, of its original silver finish with extremely
light and minor burnishing on the highlights of the eagle’s wings and
laurel leaves from handling; the inset is not dented or damaged. The
unmarked backside exhibits light surface scratches, as if someone tried
it on a belt a few times. An beautiful example that has been well
taken care of over the years and a necessary variation for the buckle
collector. The images do not do the buckle justice, it looks
dramatically better in person. Excellent+. $110.00
