Combat Helmet |
 |
1BH-3.
The
exterior of the helmet retains approximately 98% olive green repaint;
there is a very thick and rough surface underneath the paint. There are
extremely light surface scuffs, rubs and some chipping of the paint near
the rim. The metal interior of the helmet is painted the same olive
green color around the rim, however, an earlier and lighter color olive
paint can be seen on the rest of the interior. The adjustable, woven,
light colored khaki cotton web material chinstrap with blackened brass
buckle, is intact and lightly aged, there is a very tiny fray spot on
one edge. A heavy spring, covered with khaki cotton material, is
attached to each end of the chinstrap strap and the unit is attached to
the helmet with a rectangular metal fixture. The interior liner is
constructed of a black rubberized material with an adjustable
drawstring. The crown of the helmet has a large rubber pad for
protection and comfort. The liner assembly is attached to the helmet by
for black fiber bands that are secured by a large bolt in the center
top. One of the fiber bands is marked, “7-1/8, V.M.?, II, 194?.”
Some of the lettering has run off the end of the fiber material and is
not legible. There is some olive green paint on the chinstrap where it
is attached to the helmet, (nothing very detracting); the chinstrap was
not removed when the helmet was repainted. This helmet does not appear
to have had much use, if any. A very nice
example. Overall, Vg+ to near excellent condition. $45.00
